Associate Commissioner, External Communications Strategy - Mountain West Conference
The Mountain West Conference is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Commissioner, External Communications Strategy.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, support the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and other members of Senior Leadership in developing and implementing strategies to ensure the continued success of the Mountain West, with a specific emphasis on generating greater awareness and visibility for the Conference and its member institutions.
Provide leadership and day-to-day direction for the following Operating Units: Strategic Communications, Digital/Social Media and Mountain West Network. Ensure these areas continue to operate in a fully-integrated and aligned manner, cohesively operationalizing strategic initiatives. Identify ways to constantly modernize and improve methods of operation in these areas through the use of new technology, implementation of best practices and intentional application of resources. Provide professional development and growth opportunities for team members.
Develop a fully-integrated content calendar which ensures alignment across the respective Operating Units. The content calendar should underpin an external content strategy designed to generate greater visibility and value in the Mountain West brand while supporting audience growth.
Participate in the development and execution of the Mountain West brand campaign and related marketing efforts, facilitating a coordinated approach which remains connected to the overall external communications strategy.
Strategically position the Mountain West with local, regional and national media. Proactively seek interview opportunities and speaking engagements that enhance the profile of the Mountain West and its leadership. Direct responses to media inquiries and issues of significance. Serve as an authorized spokesperson on behalf of the Mountain West.
Collaborate with Mountain West broadcast partners in the development and distribution of content, announcement of schedules and selection of MW-controlled games/matches for distribution across various linear, OTA, OTT and digital platforms.
Oversee the planning and delivery of events such as the MW Football and Basketball Media Summits. Oversee the design and delivery of media operations and services for the MW Football and Basketball Championships.
Manage annual operating budgets for Strategic Communications, Digital/Social Media and Mountain West Network.
Identify and implement marketable content and media activation opportunities for corporate partners (via external rightsholders).
Review and approve requests for the use of licensed video footage through external partners.
Negotiate and manage national and satellite radio broadcast agreements.
At the direction of the Commissioner, represent the Mountain West as a member of committees and working groups across intercollegiate athletics.
Bachelor’s Degree; 7-10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. The successful candidate must display excellent interpersonal and written communications skills and a demonstrated commitment to integrity, inclusion and diversity. Travel, along with evening and weekend hours, are required.
Post-Secondary Degree; demonstrated executive leadership and experience within a membership-driven, athletics governing body or similar organization.
